We talk a great deal on this site and in the blog about the benefits for businesses of having an effective explainer video, but admittedly we don’t report back later to talk about the results, how the business is doing and if the video had any impact on their success.
Chris Wyland Co Founder of Grow Vending came to us to produce an animated explainer video for his vending machine franchise opportunity. The company specializes in healthy vending. They also have state-of-the-art vending machine technology that greatly improves the productivity for individual franchisees making them potentially more profitable. They also offer placement of every machine purchased so someone looking to own a business can really get off to a fast start. The video was produced in 2012. They have since made some changes to the equipment and asked How It Works Media to make a few edits to the video to reflect those changes. Being an animated video it was much easier to make the changes compared to live video, which would have required a complete re-shoot. That’s just another good reason to consider an animated explainer over live action.
Here’s an interview with Christopher Wyland, Co Founder of Grow Vending.
Q. How were you marketing the service prior to producing a video?
CW. Everything was just done verbally, talking to people on the phone. We have a very unique business model so communicating that was tough.
Explainer video solves a problem
Q. How did that change when you posted your explainer video?
CW. The video made it easy to explain our business to potential clients. They could log on and see a simple explanation of how the system works. The healthy vending concept is unique too and we were talking to a lot of new entrepreneurs who needed as much information as they could get.
Q. How were the results? What difference did you notice after the video was online?
CW. When people fist contacted us by email or a phone call, that first conversation was so much easier if they had seen the video. Entrepreneurs are looking for a good business and they want to know what is different about yours. The video clearly explains what we offer that is different and how they can be part of it. They already understand it when we start the conversation.
Q. What problem did you feel you had that an explainer video would help?
Animated videos are easy to edit
Q. We recently made some edits to your video. How has the business changed?
CW. The equipment we use now is different. Grow Vending is named because we help you grow a business, and we’re putting more emphasis on the healthy vending concept which is becoming more and more in demand.
Q. What goal or expectation did you have for your explanation video?
CW. We wanted more leads, also better, more qualified leads, and also to save time explaining the system to each new person. We would send them a link to the video prior to the meeting. They watched the video and understood the concept so the meeting was much more productive. We could focus on the business itself and not take 20 minutes explaining the concept.
Explainer videos get results
Q. How big of a difference did you see in the results?
CW. Based on contacts, leads, site visits, we saw about a 30% increase in business. We track our leads, what pages people land on and we can see that people are watching the video.
Q. Do your competitors have explainer videos?
CW. No, few if any of our competitors have a video so it also makes us and our brand more interesting, more unique.
CW. We posted it on Youtube, also on our website. We use it in our email marketing, on landing pages, and some of the business opportunity sites we’re a part of.
Q. How would you evaluate the decision to spend the money to create an explainer video for Grow Vending?
CW. I absolutely consider it a worthwhile investment. It’s paying off and we expect it will continue to bring results. It’s very unique in our industry.
